My suggestion would be to take a tour like the ones offered by Hobart Historic Tours. They have, for example, a 2 hour Hobart Historic Walk, costing 19 A$ and a 2 hour Hobart Historic Pub Tour, that costs 19 A$. The tours start at the Tasmanian Travel and Inforamtion Centre, where you can also book for the tours.
