One of the cheapest places to stay in the city centre is Greenhouse Backpackers, on 228 Flinders Lane. The location is excellent, one of the busiest streets, it has good facilities, friendly staff, a garden on the roof and clean rooms. You can sleep in a dorm room for 27 A$.
