What I rate as a "compulsory" place to visit is Phillip Island Nature Park, about 90 minutes drive from Melbourne. You find yourself in the middle of a wildlife haven with amazing scenery.
Here you can see the largest fairy penguin population in the world. You can "witness" the Penguin Parade every nighty at sunset. It means the return of the penguins from fishing in the sea. We saw at least about 400 of them!
