I think the Taronga Zoo is a good idea. You can get there either by ferry (departure from Circular Quay’s Wharf 2 every 30 minutes) or by bus (bus no 247 leaving from Queen Victoria Building). You should buy a zoo pass, costing around 32 A$, which you can buy from Circular Quay and it includes zoo admission and return ferry rides.
