As a location on the coast of Queensland, in Townsville water activities such as diving or snorkeling are a big attraction. You might need some Open Water courses and they're available there for around A$550. There's a beautiful shipwreck to see there, very popular.
Some of the diving companies: Pro Dive on 14 Plume, or on www.ProDiveTownsville.com.au and Blue Angel Adventure Diving (1800 330 191), which offers three days with meals included.
